Lafarge Canada Inc. plans to burn tires and a host of other waste products in its 34-year-old cement kiln in Bath. In addition, the company has applied for Certificates-of-Approval (CofAs) to store those waste products on site, and to expand its existing landfill site for the disposal of cement kiln dust.

Clean Air Bath (CAB) is a citizens' group concerned about the impact these activities will have on our health, the health of the environment, and on the economic stability of this area.

Now that CAB, along with other groups, has been granted the right to appeal the Ministry of the Environment's decision to give Lafarge permission to store and burn tires and other waste at their Bath plant, CAB has three objectives:

  1. to increase awareness of the need for extensive scientific studies of this proposed practice;
  2. to raise funds to finance the appeal; and
  3. to inform the interested public about associated participation mechanisms in Ontario.

Nothing will change unless residents get active. Together we can do it!
